Come and see: because he has called you by name
With a colorful celebration in the main chapel of St John Vianney seminary Pretoria, on the 14th of February 2017, we witnessed yet another auspicious celebration of acceptance into the candidacy of the holy catholic priesthood of the first year theology class.
Candidacy is a rite which takes place during the course of the seminary formation, by which the church recognizes the seminarians as candidates for Priesthood.
Gracing the occasion was the archbishop of Pretoria the most reverend William Slattery; in his homily the archbishop reminded the candidates of their total submission to the call of God, through the office of the catholic priesthood citing the gospel of John 1:39 where Jesus called his disciples by name and invited them to come and see. He charged them to look forward to Jesus who is the owner of the vineyard they have been accepted to work in. The archbishop went ahead to point out to them the importance of the Blessed Virgin Mary mother of God and her role in the life of seminarians. He urged them to pray ceaselessly and be focused with total and undiluted concentration on the task ahead of them.
In thanksgiving the candidates responded through one of their classmate, Sifiso Gangi, who presented great words of appreciation on behalf of the whole class and thanked the archbishop for making out time to celebrate this liturgy with us.
The celebration also was blessed with the presence of the Rector very Rev Fr Paul Manci and the Vice rector Fr John Selemela, the Formators, other priests and seminarians together with the faithful who were witnesses to the great evening of Joy.
