The Celebration of Easter marks the high point in our Christian Calendar. “Holy Week”, commences with “Palm Sunday”, and continues until the celebration of Easter on the following Sunday. Once again, this marked a week of intensified prayer and spiritual activities at SJV.

PALM SUNDAY: 13 APRIL 2014
SJV Staff, Students, and Visitors entered into this Holy Week with the Celebration of “Palm Sunday” on Sunday 13 April 2014 with Fr Nhlanhla Mchunu as the presider.
CHRISM MASS: 16 APRIL 2014
Staff and Students of SJV attended the Chrism Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Pretoria, presided over by Archbishop William Slattery, Archbishop of Pretoria. Also in attendance were Archbishop Mario Cassari, the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Emeritus George Daniel, as well as the Bishop-Elect of Mohale’s Hoek, Lesotho, Msgr John Tlhomola. Approximately 100 Priests concelebrated in the Mass during which they renewed their commitment to their priestly ministry. SJV students participated in a significant way as they served at the Altar, and the SJV Choir led the singing. As always it proved to be an inspirational part of the Holy Week activities.
MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER: 17 APRIL 2014
The SJV Community was honoured to welcome Monsignor Kevin Randall, Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature, as the Presider of this Mass. His sharing of his varied experiences of “footwashing”, or service, in his pastoral ministry, delighted all. The Mass was a solemn and dignified occasion which ushered in the Sacred Easter Triduum.
GOOD FRIDAY: 18 APRIL 2014
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
At 10h00 the SJV Community and Visitors did the outdoor Way of the Cross. This devotional practice assists to prepare one for the main Liturgy of the day which takes places in the afternoon.
GOOD FRIDAY CELEBRATION OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD
A large crowd gathered in the SJV chapel at 15h00 for the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord with Fr Owen Wilcock as the presider. At this Liturgy the Passion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ was recalled in a most solemn way.
EASTER VIGIL: 19 APRIL 2014
The week’s Liturgical ceremonies reached its climax with the celebration of the Easter Vigil, with Fr Bongani Mbhele as the presider.
EASTER SUNDAY: 20 APRIL 2014
The joy of Easter night flowed into the next day with the celebration of the Easter Mass with Fr Thanduxolo Mbhele as the presider.
